VMPlayer 12.1 Autostart Advice Please
Hi,
Just installed VMware VMPlayer ver 12.1 and setup a VM for Windows XP. It all works fine. I want to be able to start the VM in unity mode when the laptop logs in, and created a batch file thus:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\vmware\VMWare Player\vmplayer.exe" --unity "D:\VirtualBox VMs\VMWare XP\Windows XP Professional.vmx"
As it is, it runs fine, starts everything up in Unity mode. However, the cmd prompt box it initially opens, does not close.
I have tried adding EXIT to the end and it does nothing.
Tried adding START "" but then the system complains about the switch --unity
So now I am at a loss, I just need the cmd prompt to close itself.
Can anyone of your guru's out there advise?
The shutdown commands works brilliantly and the cmd prompt box closes fine.
Any help and advice would be very much welcomed
Thanks

Installation Problem Linux kernel 4.6: failed to build build vmnet and vmmon
Dear all I like to install VM Ware Player on a Mint Linux system (Ubuntu 14.04) with kernel 4.6.2. The installation aborts with the following log file. Anything I can try to do? Detailed log file has been attached as separate file.

NETWORK problem after update host to Windows10
Hello,
I was running a Linux VM under VMWARE WORKSTATION PLAYER 12.1.1 build-3770994 installed over a W7 x64 with no problems, using Bridge connection.
After update Host to W10, all works fine on host but in workstation player I see no network NICs in Bridge configuration and VM is unable to use network.
As a workaround I'm using NAT (that seems working), but I need Bridge connections.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Davide
Running multiple VMs on same host - h/w error?
I got two VM's to start on a Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2 running Workstation 12 player but after about 4 hours of running fine there was a Machine_Check_Exception - hardware problem (would have been Purple Screen of Death on my ESXi Server.). I restarted machine plus one VM but left the second VM off and everything has been fine (as it was before I tried running a second VM).
Is it okay in principle to have two VM's running on same host, provided there's enough RAM for both with some left over for the host (there was)?
Do I have to be careful how I allocated vCPU's? I have 4 cores + hyper threading (8 available logical cores) and had assigned 4vCPUs to each VM? Do I need to make sure I leave at least 1 vCPUs free or something, i.e. should I set vCPU to 2-3 to one or both VM's?
HW: one month old Intel NUC i5 w/vPro, 16MB RAM, 250GB Samsung 850 PRO (OS, apps and VM's) + USB 3 external hard drives for data (not used by VMs)
I have issue with smart card
Hello,
I have issue with smart card - it is electronic signature USD - miniLector S Evo by Bit4Id. I have host Ubuntu 16 64bit / VMWare PLayer 12 with Win7 32bit.
In Linux there is no problem with the card. I see it - I can use it. Unfortunately some local government agencies doesn't support Linux. So I try to install the card in Win 7. The issue is that the windows doesn't see it. The VM see it as shared devices. When I try to install it says "There is no card recognised by provider" - in normal instalation Win7 see the card.
What I did after that? I try that one, but it doesn't work http://pubs.vmware.com/player-12-linux/index.jsp#com.vmware.player.linux.using.doc/GUID-78E5618F-BD2D-4169-91A4-8FDDCD4C823B.html
I try to make that one VMware Workstation 12 Player for Linux Documentation Center with same result
When we run some test we got that result:

Noob question about physical cards in the Host
Hell and thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!
I'm new to VMware and am wondering how VMware player see's physical cards installed into the host machine. I'd like to do backups from the guest O/S'ed to an 8MM tape back up installed on the host. The plan is to install a PCI-to-Scsi card in the host and attach an 8MM tape back up to it. Before I purchase the hardware for this I wanted to verify if the guest O/S'es would be able to access it and back up to it. Is this possible? Once again thanks in advance for any assistance anyone could offer
VMware Player freezes machine
I run Kubuntu 14.04 with a Windows 7 VM. Something has changed, although I have not (knowingly) changed either machine. I can load and log onto the VM, but it almost instantly freezes the computer and mouse--both the VM itself and the Linux host.
What I Have Tried
1. Reinstalling VMware Player
2. Copying a known working VM from another machine
3. Clean reinstall of Linux, then installing VMware Player, then creating a new Windows 7 VM
4. Diagnostics on both the hard drive and memory.
I have not changed any equipment on the machine. I'm kind of at a loss to know what to try (or even what to test, and how) next. Anyone got ideas? Many thanks.
Workstation 12 with Windows 10host and XP Professional as guest
I can only access one website, Bing, with my set up . If I try to navigate to another it says web page not available, can't find server. I can find all the sites outside Workstation just not inside with xp professional. I've tried to do nat and bridged in the network vm settings but no success. any help much appreciated. thanks.
USB Headset Audio Stuttering (only when mic enabled as input device)
For Workstation 12, Windows 10 host, Ubuntu 14.04 guest: I have a Kingston HyperX Cloud II USB headset/mic combo that I like to use for voice communications via google hangouts. If I attach the device to a linux guest (tried both ubuntu and centOS), set the headphones to the output device AND the headset mic as the input device, I receive audio stuttering in the VM. Now the interesting thing is that if I disable the headset mic as the input device the audio stuttering goes away and all is well (except that I can't use the mic of course).
When using the headset in the Windows 10 host OS, I have no such problems and the headset works fine with the mic enabled.
Has anyone else run across this issue, or perhaps had any success with USB headsets in a Linux guest? Any thoughts on what to try that might resolve the issue?
Thanks in advance!

Resolution/Screen Size for New Linux Guest Install
Hello,
I installed VMWARE Player 6.0.7 build-2844087 on my Dell Inspiron laptop under a Windows 10 guest. I then installed Ubuntu 14.04 and then CentOS 7. In both cases, when I bootup the Linux guest OSes, the actual display area for the guest is tiny with tiny fonts ... almost impossible to use. I originally thought it was the guest OS, but then when it happened for both Ubuntu and CentOS, I thought maybe it has something to do with VMWARE. In doing some research, I thought that maybe it was related to VMWARE tools, which I tried reinstalling on both. I believe this may have resolved the issue on one of them but when I restart the guest, it "forgets" and reverts back to the tiny display.
It must be something simple I'm doing wrong, can someone help?
Many thanks in advance!

Problem with installation -- gcc not found
I'm trying to install VMware Player in OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, updated to the latest version, which provides kernel 4.6.
After running vmplayer, I get a window showing an error: "A compatible version of gcc was not found."
After clicking OK in that window, I get a new window with another warning: "GNU C Compiler (gcc) version 6.1.1 was not found.".
However, if I do gcc --version, I get the following, that shows I've got the latest gcc.
gcc (SUSE Linux) 6.1.1 20160615 [gcc-6-branch revision 237474]

Even if I search for the gcc directory (given by whereis gcc) the problem doesn't go away.
How can I install VMware Player, then?
VMware Player: /usr/bin/vmware-user not being invoked with Linux Mint 18
Since I couldn't find anywhere else to post a VMware Player issue, I'm posting it here. Hopefully this is okay.
I've installed Linux Mint 18 as a guest OS in a VM with VMware Player. All went fine, until I tried to install vmware-tools using the usual "copy the source of the virtual install CDROM and build in /tmp". This didn't work, even though the build itself looked much like it did with Linux Mint 17.3 where it did work (compile errors for missing "struct file" member "f_dentry").
So I used this document to re-build vmware-tools on Linux Mint 17.3 just to see if it would work:
Error VMware Tools Installation (Shared Folder) - Ubuntu 15.04 [SOLVED!]
This worked fine on Linux Mint 17.3 without compile errors (that I noticed), so I tried it on Linux Mint 18. It seemed to work fine there as well, until it came time to restart the VM, and see if I could get the desktop in the VM to go full screen. It would not go full screen, so I tried manually starting /usr/bin/vmware-user, and that did it. However, I don't want to be running this manually, even though it seems to work.
Now I'm wondering why /usr/bin/vmware-user isn't run automatically on Linux Mint 18 startup like it is on Linux Mint 17.3...I looked and virtually the same startup directory is there on /etc/vmware-tools on both versions of Linux Mint, 17.3 and 18. The only thing that I can figure is that they changed the way the system is brought up in Linux Mint 18, and vmware-user is not being run as part of that.
Anyone else run into this, and have any ideas on how to get this to be run as the Linux Mint 18 VM comes up?
Thanks!
Virtualiser l'IP
Bonjour,
Merci
Computer loses video
I have a free VMWARE player that I use to run Windows 10. My host system is Windows 7. Both host and guest share 16 GB of memory 8 each. What's happening is after running guest for a while my monitors go blank. The computer is till running because if I had audio going I still can hear it. If I remote to my box I see an error message saying something about unable to eject video card or something. The only way to bring the computer back is to push the reset button. Any idea what that might be?
Thanks
Video Memory stuck at 4M
Hi,
I am currently running a custom linux distribution inside VMWare Player. I enabled the vmware graphix kernel module (vmwgfx) and the X11 vmware driver (vmware_drv.so) as well.
When I boot my VM, everything is fine but the display resolution, 1024x768. By looking at the Xorg.0.log, it seems that the vmware driver limit the resolution because of the memory size.
...
[3330443.517] (II) vmware(0): Not using default mode "1600x1200" (insufficient memory for mode)
...
By looking at the kernel messages:
.....
[ 1.297915] [drm] VRAM at 0xe8000000 size is 4096 kiB --------------------------------------------------- 4M
.....
[ 1.336968] [drm] Initialized vmwgfx 2.9.0 20150810 for 0000:00:0f.0 on minor 0
A quick google tells me that by changing the values:
svga.autodetect = "FALSE"
svga.maxWidth = "3840"
svga.maxHeight = "2160"
svga.vramSize = "33226752"
Should do the trick, but its not. No matter what I put in that config, its always 4M available in the VM.
Anybody observed the same problem ? Any missing configuration ?
Thanks.
