Working with VMware Workstation 12 Player
I used a copy of an old xp computer in the VM. Virtual XP itself starts and is works well.
All programs in the virtual XP are working with exception of one program.
On the original XP this program causes no problems.
This program is using some services and one of these services don’t start.
Service remains in state "is starting"
Any idea how to proceed

I am using a shared folder in Linux guest (Ubutnu 14.04 LTS). I have mounted it in a desired folder through the command:
sudo mount -t vmhgfs .host:/NAME_SHARED_FOLDER PATH_OF_MOUNTED_SHARED_FOLDER
At the end of my work, before shutting down the system, which is the correct and safe way to unmount the shared folder??? (in order not to crash the system or having problems of instability....)
If I right-click on the icon of the shared folder and then click on "Unmount" I get this error message:
Have you got any ideas?

I'm having problems with Virtual Win XP 32bits. Mouse lag, freezes(it says the application Microsoft Windows is not responding) and fatal crash(its closes Win xp and VMware Player then it goes back to windows 10)

I have a problem with EVERY virtual machine I am using with vmWare Workstation Player 12.0. I suppose the problem regards host OS, since virtual machines work on other host OS.
The problem is that when I try to run a VM, if I select 2 processors, host OS uses 50% of the CPU, while guest in almost freezed. If i select 1 processors, same behaviour, with host at 25% of CPU usage. I have tryed changing RAM, but without any results. Virtual machines were working perfectly with only 1Gb RAM.
My host OS is Intel Core i7 3Ghz, 16Gb RAM, Hard disk SSD, 64 bit.
Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.

I have a Windows 7 Pro Guest in VMWare Player 12. The Host is Windows Server 2012 R2 in a VSphere 6.0 Virtual Environment. When the Guest NIC is set to Bridged mode I cannot access the internet nor can I ping any internal network servers or the gateway from the Guest. I am getting an internal ip address and the DNS servers listed in the Guest are the correct internal DNS servers. The Host can ping the Guest and the Guest can ping the Host. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

What version should I use?
Reading in Ubuntu forums I see that there are several pre-installation and post-installation activities changing based on the VMware Player and Ubuntu version.
Where an I locate a detailed descriptio onf the installation procedure for Ubuntu 15.10?

I'm trying to use vmrun and Workstation Player 12 to start a VM without the Player interface. The command I am using is as follows:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware VIX\vmrun.exe" -T player start "[path to my VM]" nogui
This always results in "Error: Unknown error." If I remove the nogui flag it works fine. Is this an unsupported command?

Im having problem playing a game (Army Men RTS), because the cursor is really lagging, making me dizzy actually!
No cursorlagging when Im not in-game.
Does anyone know what do to. To make the cursor run smoothly in-game?
(512mb memory,1 cores processor maybe need to improve? But how to change it in Virtual Machine Settings?)

Trying to install VMWare Workstation Player 12.1.1 on a Linux Host (Linux Mint Debian Edition 2) running on an old Dual-Xeon MacPro I can install it successfully and I can also run a Windows guest (Windows 10-64Bit) as a VM.
But if I try to install VMWare tools, I get the following message : "No componenet found on update server".
I guess this is realted to 12.1.1 version of Workstation player.
Because if I downgrade to Workstation Player 12.1.0 and ope the same VM with that one, I can install VMWare tools flawlessly...
Anyone else getting this ?

Hello -- when windows is the hyper-visor (host) and linux is the guest, what is file format that the linux guest sees the shared folder?
on my Linux distribution (Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon) i installed VMWare Player 12.1.0 build-3272444 for my schooling. if i type "netstat -nr" command on my terminal, i see 200 vmnet interfaces!! 200!! these interfaces (each of them with an IP address configured) conflict with my static routes! i don't need so much interfaces on my Linux System! how can i delete these VMNET interfaces? i don't understand.. in VMWare Player setting there is nothing. i need of the VMWare Player for some Cisco Network labs that i made in GNS3. i'm not a system administrator.. i'm a network engineer. can you help me please?
As you can see from the screenshot above, I have both VMware Workstation Player and Workstation Pro installed. Workstation Player was installed onto my PC when I installed an Android emulator called Andy (http://www.andyroid.net/), while I installed Workstation Pro individually. But now that I have Workstation Pro, I don't need Player anymore, but I couldn't find Player in the list of programs in 'Programs and Features' in Control Panel, neither did uninstalling Andy and checking the 'uninstall VMware' option remove Player, so now I have both the Player and Pro versions on my PC, and that I cannot uninstall Player. Any answer would be greatly appreciated, and thank you.
I'm Lost.
Microsoft decided to upgrade my PC from Windows 7 to 10 without my permission. It wiped out my dual boot track so I can no longer access my XP system AND as Windows 10 Home no longer supports Windows Virtual PC I can not access my XP virtual machine.
I downloaded VMware Workstation 12 Player and VMware vCenter Converter Standalone and installed both.
When I tried to "Open" / "Import" the .vmc Microsoft file I get an error:
Failed to open virtual machine: Failed to import "XP".
When I try to convert the file through the stand alone app I can not get past the source screen as I have no idea what to enter.
Could somebody walk me through this?
Greetings! I am preparing for a major personal purchase and don't want to waste $2500 in the process! Could someone in this forum please help me discover if either of these two Lenovo P50 CPU's will work with VMware Workstation Player free version? If they will not, what version of VMware will I need that IS compatible?

Intel Core i7 (6th Gen) - 6700HQ at 2.6GHz, Max Turbo 3.5GHz Quad Core, 6MB Cache
Option two:
Intel Xeon E3-1505MV5 at 2.8GHz, Max Turbo 3.7GHz Quad Core, 8MB Cache
The last thing I want to do is spend $2-$3k on a laptop and not have it run my favorite software in the world!

Hi I am running Niresh AMD Yosemite on VMWare Player, the mouse is in some weird position with the mouse in yosemite. For example to close an application i have to put the mouse lower than the X to close the program. Thanks for any help!
I occasionally fire up a Windows 7/32bit guest in Player v6/32bit over my Windows 8.1/64 host. I'd like to upgrade that guest to Windows 10/64 so I'll need to reinstall the OS with an ISO.
Since I'm doing that I might as well upgrade to Workstation 12.
Is it possible to have a clean installation of both Workstation 12 Player and the older Player 6 on the same system? I'd guess not but I have to ask.
I just want to eliminate the pain of doing a full migration to v12/64 and then finding out that there is something I still need from the Player 6/32 guest which I can no longer fire up. I don't want to run them simultaneously, or try to mix v6/12 files with the wrong releases. I just want v6 there if I need it to fire up the v6 guest configs. When v12 is fully up and I'm sure I don't need to look back anymore I'd be fine with uninstalling v6 and removing the old files.
That brings up the next question... If I do have these installed side by side, and I uninstall Player 6, is that going to remove underpinnings required for v12, requiring a reinstallation of v12?

If I have Workstation 12 Player installed on Windows 8.1, and go through the in-place upgrade to Windows 10, will VMware be OK? Or is there something that needs to be done before or after such an upgrade to ensure it still works?
I don't want to upgrade and somehow not be able to use the config files anymore.
