WMWare tools install error: "Could not find component on update server"

Hopefully just about my last newbie question, either I won't need to ask more, or they'll get more difficult!

I start my XP guest on my Win8 host.

After I log in, this appears on the VMWare window under my screen image:

When I click on "Install Tools" I get this error:

I'm running a newly downloaded player, V 6.04 build 2237854.

Any idea what the problem is - and how to resolve it?

Do I really want or need these tools?
