I've created a VM using VMware Player on a Windows 8.1 Pro host; the guest OS is Windows 7.
I don't have sufficient internal disc space on the host for the VMDK files and so I'm using two USB external discs for storage. The configuration is as follows:
The OS .vmdk file and Data .vmdk files are held on one of the external discs.
The other holds a .vhdx file that has been attached on the host so as to appear as another drive, and then this drive has been shared with the VM.
I'm trying to copy quite large amounts of data from the shared drive to the data drive, and all goes well for quite a while - often six hours or more - but eventually the system stalls. There's no way out other than to restart the VM.
Any suggestions as to how to fix this would be most welcome - I'd happily accept more reliable performance even if it's slower!
Thank you
Mike
